Several factors led to the progressive increase in the number of churches in Latin America. The discussions of whether the catholic church should hold up the people or support the government were widespread in Latin America throughout the latter half of the twentieth century. A time when many nations chose whether to turn to democracy or maintain the state of dictatorship. Finally, the catholic church decided to focus on the concerns of the people when the Pope discouraged the church from interfering with the social and political interests of the people. Due to this, the progressive increase in churches developed the response of whether or not the church should be involved in politics. However, the current day church lost power over politics when democracy failed to yield economic progress. Latin American history is a visible part of the Roman Catholic religion though there are so many transformations in the current catholic faith. The beginning of the Catholic religion influenced education through the construction of the first colleges. As much as organizations claim that people are becoming free from religious beliefs, the catholic church continues to hold the esteemed place in culture and government. Recently, there’s been a decline in the number of Catholics in Latin America because of the erosion of religious belief in the whole country.
